Alert Sensory Camp

What: Alert Sensory Camp encourages children to learn how their sensory system works and determine their own needs for increased attention, alertness, or calming. Each child identifies his/her own individual strategies as part of the group activities and learns to apply those to situations as they self-advocate for their sensory needs. Individualized sensory items are included. Children meet daily for five days and are grouped according to age. Additional follow-up for application to school settings is available for each child as needed.

Who: 7 years and older

Cost: $725.00

Handwriting Without Tears® Camp

What: The Handwriting Without Tears® (HWT) Camp uses a developmentally-based treatment approach to improve pre-writing, printing, and cursive skills. Children learn letter formation and how to eliminate reversals, increase legibility, and improve sentence spacing and cursive connections. HWT uses multi-sensory strategies to incorporate visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic input. Participants meet once weekly for eight weeks. Group size is limited. Some insurance plans may apply.

Who: Grades K-4

Cost: $760 (a materials fee of $10 to $25 may be required depending on the grade level of the children in the group):

Playing and Learning Social Skills (PALS) Camp

What: The PALS Camp joins principals of behavior with social language to teach children with autism, or social skill deficits due to other diagnoses, how to play and communicate with peers in the group. A speech-language pathologist will address social language goals and appropriate social behaviors using games, songs, cooking, and role playing activities. Parents receive follow-up tips to reinforce goals in daily life situations. Children are grouped by age and meet twice weekly for four weeks. Some insurance plans may apply.

Who: Ages 4-8

Cost: $600.00

When: Ages 4-5: June 6 - July 1, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-10 AM

Ages 6-8: July 11 - August 5, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 AM

Pre-K Literacy Camp

What: It is never too early to start developing the fundamental skills that are the building blocks for fast, efficient reading. Getting children ready for formal schooling is an important task for both parents and preschool teachers. To help enhance this process of early skill development, The READ Center is offering an intensive early literacy camp for students entering kindergarten in the Fall of 2012. The camp focuses on early literacy skills, language awareness, sound awareness, following directions, and listening. The camp meets daily for three weeks. Each session is half an hour to maximize attention.

Who: Rising kindergarten students

Cost: $90.00

Study Skills Camp

What: Our Study Skills Camp teaches children how to use their textbooks to their advantage. They'll learn how to take notes that will help them really study. They'll construct study guides that gather the important points they need to know and practice test-taking and study techniques that will help them remember the facts of the material. They'll also learn to set up study space and schedules to keep them on track for the whole school year as well as for long-term projects. The camp is two hours per day for five days and is limited to only four students per session, so call now.

Who: Rising 5th to 8th Graders

Cost: $400.00

This camp will take place from June 11- June 15, daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for 5th and 6th graders (Session 1) or June 18- June 22, daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for 7th and 8th graders (Session 2)

Test-Taking Minicamp

What: The Test-Taking Minicamp teaches middle and high school students to become better test takers. It increases understanding of the effective listening and learning concepts required by different types of evaluations. It focuses on organizational skills, study techniques, time management, and proven note and test-taking strategies. Participants will also learn the effective reading and memory skills required to become more successful test-takers. Students meet two hours daily for three days. All supplies are included.

Who: Rising 9-12 Graders

Cost: $300.00

This camp will take place at 1-3 PM daily July 10-12 (Session 1) or July 17-19 (Session 2)

Peer-Play Camp

What: Peer-Play Camp matches socially-skilled peers with children with social skills deficits for games, cooking, stories, role play, and theory of mind activities with a licensed speech-language pathologist. Children meet for an hour twice per week for eight weeks. Times will be chosen individually for each peer match. Peer volunteers receive gift cards for their participation. Call for an application to become a peer for a child!

Who: Ages 5 to 12

Cost: $264.00 per week

When: Each Peer Pair will meet twice weekly for one hour at assigned times.
