When more of the same isn’t enough……For some children, academic problems are the result of deficits in one or more core areas of cognitive processing. For these children, repetition, encouragement, and incentives aren’t enough to promote change and can oftentimes increase frustration for students and parents alike! Academic skills that are practiced and memorized don’t always transfer to the classroom if underlying core areas are still delayed. The READ Center specializes in addressing academic struggles at their deepest levels with the goal of correcting the core deficits and not just the symptoms.

Knoxville now has its first comprehensive academic development center! The READ Center’s concept of identifying and correcting academic difficulties is a team approach that incorporates educational psychology, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and academic tutoring for students who struggle in one or more of the following areas:

  • Basic reading skills
  • Spelling
  • Handwriting
  • Reading comprehension
  • Written expression
  • Attention
  • Coordination
  • Listening skills
  • Auditory processing

The READ Center Services include:

- Team Evaluations - Basic screenings and comprehensive assessments determine cognitive and academic strengths and challenges in order to develop a comprehensive and aggressive intervention approach.
